I planned to get a 180G tank and underneath it, 3 20G tanks placed sideways to grow out my mbuna fry.

I was wondering how do you do water changes? With buckets? Using a siphon requires gravity?

i do a syphon because i can go right out the front door... if the syphon works go for it.. if not you can use a pump or even a powerhead... the powerhead wont do much for you if you are trying to go "up" with the water.. but they work alright for going level..

you should still be able to syphon the 20's, but you might have to syphon the water into buckets. the vacuum portion of the syphon just needs to be at a slightly higher level than the outlet on the syphon. a good water pump works too.

I built a small pedestal out of 2x4's to raise the tank a little, it made it a lot easier to siphon the water out.
