I was at the lfs and bought some tiger barbs , and not knowing any thing about them. got them home and soon found out that they like to nip fancy tailed gold fish . They don't go after no other fish.I bought 3, so do I bye 3 more and see if they leave the gold fish alone, or I have a bigger tank that I have my oscars in and move the gold fish there. the gold fish are 6 in. long and 2in. wide or would the oscar kill them!!

barbs are tropical goldfish are coldwater. they dont mix... so you dont put the goldfish with the oscars at all. and the tiger barbs will most likly get eaten by the oscars depending on the size of the oscars. so either take back the barbs OR take a chance with the in with the oscars.

Goldfish and fin nippers are always a bad idea, barbs are notorious for this, rehome the barbs to a different tank, or take them back...

But hey, tiger barbs are headstrong enough, they might last a while in with the oscar's, but as stated, this also is not advised.

I would say take it back to the LFS. I had 1.5" barbs all get eaten by 2" datnoids. I'm sure you're oscar and the barbs have an even bigger size difference

Oscars will kill the goldfish.. You're better off getting a few more tiger barbs since they are less aggressive in larger groups and putting them in with the oscar if he isn't too big already

take this as a lesson learned. never buy fish without knowing something about them. it's a mistake many have made but with all the info available to us there really is no reason to buy fish on a whim. at the very least you will be out some money and at the worst you can lose your entire stock. with all the members here waiting to offer help, ask the question first.

Yes you have got three types of fish that do not belong together no how. There are other fish that will go with each of these. With the goldfish since they are coldwater you are more limited. I keep 2 large goldfish 1 black moor and 1 large fantail in a 65 hex all by themself.

I agree with everything else that has been said. Goldfish are best kept with other goldfish. Mostly because once they grow, they are pretty slow swimmers (the fancy varieties are, anyway). It's very hard for them to get away from an aggressive fish. Also, as mentioned, they thrive is lower temperatures than tropicals.

I'd return the barbs and separate your goldfish from the oscar.
