Hey everyone!
-I need to write a 4-5 page paper on a foreign (not USA) current event (2003-now).
-I would like some ideas if yall dont mind.
-I would like something that has to do with animals but it doesnt have to be.
-I am doing my own research but would love some suggestions.
Thanks In Advance!!

Japanese whaling is a big issue right now.

Topic -
Should private organizations have the legal authority to enforce laws on the high seas, even if resorting to illegal means?
Should those same organizations be allowed to enforce their own laws, they themselves being left unchallenged?
Who defines what the law is? If in international waters, does an international treaty have authority? Since none of those countries actually has jurisdiction?
If acting in open water, does Green Peace have the right to make their own law? If they do illegal things in open water, who has the right to say it was illegal? What laws of what country are applicable in waters where no law is enforceable?
Should vigilantes be allowed to operate in areas that govts seem unwilling to act?
If govts do not enforce international anti whaling treaties, should govts punish those private parties that do the enforcement?
And do they have any right to punish those parties who cross the line into illegal property damage etc...who makes the law? Who enforces the law?
Should govts allow vigilantes to proceed in areas the govt does not want to step to save themselves from international arguments over a whale?
Should govts punish vigilantes for property damage, loss of business, action causing injury or death...if the target is acting illegally or legally?
Should vigilantes be punished for acting illegally in govt waters, if they are only acting because govts wont?
If govts do not enforce any law, why punish one side or the other?
Should private parties just start a shooting war?
Why? Why not? Who says so?

This is current. Google.
The same questions can be asked regarding piracy.
Should private companies have the right to shoot back to defend their ships?
If so, what would happen after an escalation?
Who is responsible? If anyone?

If you get it all figured out you can come tell these guys about it.
I don't know how much time you have to write it. Maybe it's over.
But it would be a good place to test your arguments.
For the Whale Tale, or whatever assignment they give you next.
I don't think it's cheating to give your opinion and listen to others.
Even if they influence your opinion that is not exactly plagiarism.
It would have to be called learning. The same as a discussion within your school and neighborhood.
Does it matter how you came by your wisdom?
A library book or T.V. newscast or web debate all contribute to YOUR general knowledge.
Then it's up to you to explain YOUR thoughts and position in a school essay.
Just be sure you are giving your teacher your own words, not cut and pasting theirs.
You will see that this thread is a bit dry. Nobody is getting too worked up and involved in it.
If you have something to add, I'm sure they would welcome you.
Even just reading some of the better threads can show you the world outside of your assigned curriculum.
And the world outside the good old U.S.A.
They could also use a little input from a young American.
You might have contributions they would never think of.
After moving their site and losing some members, they could use a little fresh blood and apple pie.
There are no/little official restrictions on posting adult worded content.
But the mods are mostly UK so they are pretty polite by our standards.
I wouldn't worry about my kid going there.
