i have recently received a few new rays and two have something lodged in there gill slit one i receive about 1 1/2 months ago and my new one this week has the same thing this is two out of 5 rays that i have gotten in the past few months. it is hard to describe because it is hard to see it is not lice and it is only one object i think if it was a parasite that it would have multiplied. i have used prazi so i don't know maybe a fish hook? i don't know but i don't think so.

really hard to tell from your picture.... john can you scoot the ray on its side and use macro setting on you camera??
thanks guys i don't know if i can get a better picture i will try. i can tell you it is very dark in color i would say black to a dark brown and there are not several just one so does this exclude it from being a parasite? i might be able to get someone to help turn one over and try to remove it but i am concerned about the stress on the rays i don't feel both are a 100%
Looks like just a mole spot to me. Most of my motoros have the same markings on the gills also. But maybe its something else your talking about that we cant seen in your pic.
