I've kept fish all my life, but I'm fairly new to the 100 gallon plus tanks. I have three 200 watt Ebo Jager heaters for my 150. That gives me 3.75 watts per gallon.

Has anyone experinced any problems with the ratio that low? I normally try to keep it around the 5 watts/gallon area.

Thanks for the help.

as long as your room temp is higher than 65 degrees on a regular basis you will be fine. if your room temp is 60 or lower you will want 5+ wpg if you are over 65 degrees 3-3.5wpg will work out fine. It also depends on how warm you want to keep your tank I am assuming you are keeping it between 75-82 degrees.

Thanks, mostlycichlids.

I ususally keep it around 77-78 degrees. I don't think I'll have a problem with the room temp dropping below 65. My girlfriend likes the place HOT, so it looks like I'll be ok.

IMO bigger heater's leave no cold spot's in the tank.

i use two 250w marineland stealthon my 150and it keeps it up.
