Okay, it hurts to type this, but it's important.

The difference in dosages for a formalin "bath" and for adding Formalin for overnight or longer are about 3mls/gal for the bath and 1ml/gal for just adding it to the tank.

Here's what can happen if you forget to change the water after the 3mls /gal bath is over.

Next morning.

2 dead albino cories.
1 Discus with a blind eye and one paralysed gill and very washed out color.
1 Discus with one blind eye, one half blind eye, and very dark color change.
1 Discus with no apparent damage at all except he's a little pale and very aggressive today.
1 Discus (that is already ill) no visible change
2 LFABN juveniles apparently totally unharmed
Colony of guppies absolutely bulletproof.

I immediately did about a 70% water change before work.

I'm afraid to go home.

Anyone have any ideas for easing the pain that i've caused?

I thought another huge water change late tonight and add some salt to relieve the gills?

sorry to hear your loss, but yeah formalin overdosages are not fun to deal with. I killed 300 arapaima with my first attempt of using formalin baths so don't feel too bad.

That sucks, sorry for the losses. Also remember that formalin is known to the state of California to cause cancer. Other things known to the state of California to cause cancer are asbestos, vegetables, air, and other people.

Update:

The sick discus looks better than before the bath-- go figure.
the healthy Discus looks the same,
My Cobalt looks like someone tried to put him through a cheese grater--positively pitiful

The guppies are still bullet proof.

BUT-----my damn tank is going through a cycle.
FU&%!!!!!!!!

My damn tank is cycling.

Sorry for your loss. As a scientist, I learned that formalin fixes proteins. Your beneficial bacteria have DNA in them that was fixed and they died.

yes formalin is dangerous at temps beyond like 80 degrees and is just dissolved formaldehyde gas, that's why it killed your filter bacteria.

you did 10x the dosage!

I'm currently doing my discus who have flukes and it is 1ml per 10g not 1ml per 1g!!
