there are certain words that - if you spend hours on a forum - you read over and over and may unknowingly have your own idea of how they are pronounced.

for instance i was at the petstore and the lady who keeps the freshwater fish said the word cichlid like "Chi-chi-lid" when its pronounced "Sick-lid".

another example is many of my friends pronounce Bichir our own ways. this whole time i was saying "*****er" when my friend corrected me and said it was "Biker". while my other friends all believe its "Bicker".

another example is Dovii. here in the islands we (natives) like to pronounce things right when it comes to anything but english (generally). so we been calling them "Dough Vee" just cause well, its a latin word and thats how it reads out. yet i hear alot of westerners say "Doughv Eye" on youtube.

another one is the chinese snakehead aka "pungi" some people say "pon gee" or "pond jee" or "pun..." of either.

some clarifications? lol and maybe any other fish that you can't for the life of you figure out how it should be said?
