I plan to make a special polypterid tank during the next year. It will be inhabitated from 2 ornates and several other species (such as triops). I plan to build up a carboniferous tank. I don´t want use normal drift wood because it wouldn´t fit. I search for fossilized carboniferous trunks, such as Lepidodendron in very good quality.

Do you have an idea where i can get that stuff?

i like the idea but fossilized wood may not be good as it might be affected in water, in addition to higher cost.

besides, it would block precious sights of your polypterus as they usually come in big slabs.

Darius, i would talk to your local geology/rockhound club and ask them if there is a local place to find such petrified wood. In a big city like atlanta theres bound to be a "rock shop", i would look for a place like this to find what your looking for.
