So Cal
I have 3 Fosso's. I know that 2 of them are male for sure and think the 3rd might be male also. Ive heard that its best to keep 2 males to get one to reamin fully colored but how does 3 males fit into that equation?

Actually have 3 males is better than 2. With 2 males one will become dominant and harass the subordinant one, but with 3, the constant chasing will be spread between the 2 lesser males without either one getting too hurt! In the past when I wanted to breed a species, I would put three tanks end to end. The alpha male and at least 3 females in the center tank, and the other males one in each of the other two tanks. That way all 3 males could color-up without actually fighting, and the male mating in the center tank would not overly badger the females. Especially the females holding eggs. So you see, having 3 is actually better than 2. IMHO, Johnathan

Great fish you will probaly end up with 2 of the males looking almost female coloured. I would see if you could trade them and get 3 females to put with the most colorful male. Also how big is your tank as these fish get quite large.

Sounds like a good concept on the trio. My tank is a standard 240g but hopefully by the end of the year i will be upgrading to a 480g. No known females in my tank now....don't wanna do the breading thing or have a bunch of horny male fish all trying to fight for the chance to do the dance.

We have two matured and colored up males in our 210G. We are also growing out two others but at ~6" they are still unsexed.

The two males absolutely hate each other. One stayed subdominant for about 18 months and stopped growing at around 9". Then one day he decided to come out, had a growth spurt and colored up real nice. They are both 12" or more and take turns at tank Boss.

I am not sure I can keep both males together much longer and have made plans with a LFS to trade one in for their display tank. Thing is we cannot decide which one as they both are keepers.

That suks to have them not get along. But it sounds like ones not dominate over the other if they both take turns whoopin d others butt. Hopefully u can trade for somethn just as nice that doesn't disrupt ur tank.
