my rays have been acting funny for a lil bit now, i thought it was something out of my hands, my parameters are normal as they ever were! i did notice a slight ph jump but from 6.0 to 6.5, but i thought it was from me water changing and not adding enough proper ph 6.5 in the tank. low and behold under some move sand i see a penny!! my son must have threw it in or something. i'm going to do a large water change and finger rake all my sand but is there any other advice that would be beneficial?

I have seen rays in ponds with change a few times. There is a store by me that has all kinds of rays in a pond that has about $20 in change in it at all times. I don't know how this will effect them but they have had the same rays for some time now(past year or so).

I wouldn't worry about it. It is rumored that early aquarists used to throw copper pennies into their tanks to ward off ich. I'm not sure of the veracity of this rumor.

The outside of pennies now are coated with zinc, I don't know if that would really hurt your fish.

it's dated 1980, i saved it

Copper and rays don't get along at all. If it were in there long term and started to deteriorate, I'd worry. But it doesn't sound like that is an issue. Worse case is that a ray eats it and becomes impacted.
