I don't know about you folks, but I always seem to overflow the cap while measuring out the correct amount of Prime when I do water changes. I use two cap fulls to treat my 75G holding tank; but end up spilling another 1/2 cap on my fingers and floor.

Well today I was cleaning out my fish cabinet and came across the old syringe I used when I was measuring out 1ml of Prime for water changes using 5G buckets. For some reason I stuck the syringe inside my 16oz bottle of Prime and discovered it fit perfectly. I turned the bottle upside down, pulled back on the handle, extracted exactly 10ml (two cap fulls), and squirted it into my 75G holding tank.

No more smelly fingers for me!

BTW - I believe I purchased the syringe at CVS.

not bad . . . the cap I use allows me to dispense Prime by the drop, and I don't use quite as much as you do.

just curious: the directions say to use "one capful for 50 gallons of new water" . . . are you over-dosing, or do you use so much Prime for a particular reason?

Great idea. Our holding tank is on a shelf over my head. I've had the stuff run down my hand/arm trying to get it into the holding tank.

Sab_Fan,
I have very bad tap water. A mix of 82 up-river waste treatment plants, water pumped from abandoned coal mines (adds acidity water to our normally alkaline water), and lots of heavy metals.

Plus I use extra Prime to handle chloramine (ammonia + chlorine).

That's awesome I have the same thing been using it for a while. Did yours come with a cleaning brush? I stopped using that one and moved to a bigger one when I got my 220. So I can easily dose 30ml at once.

I do mine the old fashion way. I take off the lid then pour a little in the tank and call it a day. :D

Another handy measuring device is an old Nyquil dose cup. It's marked at 5ml, 7-1/2ml, 10ml, 15ml, 20ml, and 30ml. I used a permanent magic marker to highlight the markings.

That is if you are treating the new water before you put it into the tank.

If you are adding the prime to the tank you are to "base dose on aquarium volumne"
