I am in the middle of class when my roomate sends me a text message that my polypterus palmus was found dead. It was on the floor dried up so apparently sometime late last night or in the morning it had jumped out. This is bizarre, becuase he was never even very active, always just hung around the bottom, like he should. Dies at about 8" length, how sad.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Mine have never tried jumping to my knowledge, but I worry all the time that they will find some way out of their tanks.

In the 75G with him is a smaller silver Aro and a Pike cichlid. The cichlid never shows any agression, or anything else for that matter, he got old and is grumpy now. I have never seen any fish bother the bichir even slightly. I am quite unhappy right now though, thats the third awesome fish that I have lost this year.

ive heard a few times that its not "if"they will jump its"when"they will jump.I guess its a confirmation unfortunately for you.

sorry for ur loss
