Hey Everyone, found this big piece of driftwood at the beach I go fishing at. Caught a Bass for dinner right in front of the driftwood. Hopefully no one gets annoyed with a fishing photo. Figured was good to show the size of it. I’m wondering if and how would I be able to put it in my tank. What are the best steps to take

This log is just under 6 ft long, found on the Pacific beach.
I hosed it off, a moment or 2 with the garden hose, and dropped it in the tank.

As you can see, I find logs for my tanks, all the time, and don't do anything other than hose them down a little
Some times they leach some tannins, but I considier the antibacterial qualities of tannins a good thing;.
After a couple water changes, the tannin staining gets diluted anyway.

That's a great found piece of driftwood; I'd definitely be slugging it home if I found it also. I agree with the above, a superficial cleaning is all I'd do. :)

From the look of it that wood might already be close to waterlogged and won't require superhuman efforts to keep it submerged. Nothing worse than that horrifying grinding crash of a big piece of floaty wood pulling itself loose from its moorings at the tank bottom and lurching to the surface to smash into your cover...or your light fixture.

I find all my bogwood/driftwood at one little beach on the potomac, just downstream of the disgusting metropolitan sprawl that is our nation's capital. I usually just knock off all the rotten or decaying portions, thoroughly blast it with a hose, then add it to a tank. I've never noticed any problems associated with times when i added wood to a tank.

thank you everyone for all your responses, can’t wait to get my tank upgrade now. Going to hose it off and probably just have to put it right into the tank, since I don’t really have anywhere else to keep it soaked. Maybe the bath tub, but doubt the wife would be a fan of that😂
