Very sad day ,I had to do over time at work today. I fed my fish early mourning instead of late afternoon. Do not know if this is the reason or not. Anyway I got home from work at ten pm and found Sparky my 30+ inch fire eel dead on floor. I don't know if normal feeding time came, and nobody came decided to try and get it himself or what. Am very discouraged, don't know if I want to try to replace him. I had read this happening to other people on this site,so I made sure no openings in lid but he lifted glass cover and escaped anyways. I would imagine that they must be very strong at this size he was huge. I'm wondering is this inevitable or that common? Now I am worried about Einstien my other fire eel, just alas long but not as fat. Also sparky seemed very happy and healthy, nothing new no changes just feeding time that once. Thanks for listening.

Sorry for your loss. I have a TT Eel about 28". I'd be bummed out to find him on the floor.

My Xbox gamer tag: xXclusive808x. Run & gun baby!

Sorry for your loss =( problem ime is there are a few variables that can cause them to jump so you almost never figure out why they do it in the end. He was a beautiful fish. took me a few years to get another when i lost my group... but they are worth it in the end as you well know.

Thanks for your comments. Still kind of in shock, can't believe she's not with us anymore. I read in another post some probable causes, none seem to apply here. Water params great,no tank mates that are agressive just discus, bristle nose, corydoras. Good place to hide 6 inch inside diameter terracotta chimeney liner took to it right away. I have a theory maybe crazy, Sparky was super interactive much more than Einstein I almost think he was looking for his people. My wive was out also. I know this sounds silly but it'the only thing I can think of. Einstein is also a big beautiful eel but completly different personality than Sparky. Both of them got the exact same attention and food, same feeding by hand. Anyone got any thoughts on my theory. Is it possible for a eel to be that attached to it's keeper? Sorry if I'm kinda thinking out loud. REAL BUMMED about it worst loss in 25 years of fish keeping.Sparky was like a buddy so interactive with my wife and me she will really be missed. Thanks for listening.
