As mean as a Dovii but only grows to about 10 inches (biggest i have seen) so with that mutch room if you start it off small with some other new world cichlids it should be ok. But they grow very slow so watch so he doesnt get swallowed.
a few grammode and some other fish and then u get to see every day who they ate until they are big and the only thing left.
plus if u get a few u can sell the others when they get big
i like to buy small fish but not 1" fish i wish stores sold more 6" cichlids
I like the idea of trying to breed them. yes it would take them a while to grow into the tank but eventually they will. also, a 125 might just be enough room for a pair without the male trying to kill the female. all that I've read about them suggests that having more than 1 grammodes in the tank usually leads to just one grammodes, but I'll bet that not many people have tried keeping them in such a large tank. I'd put in about 6-8 juvies and a bunch of dithers....silver dollars, large livebearers (would be great cause the fry would be a free snack), tiger barbs, rosy barbs, rainbows etc.
Mine when he reached full size could not be kept with anything that was not very tough (8-10 inch dovii) in a 90 gallon it really sucked because anything small enough not to bother the dovii got blasted by the gramode
