so, I was doing my usual morning rounds this morning, and found one of my 4 musks dead. not sure what happened, everyone's been happy, healthy and eating just fine. param's check out. the thing of interest though is that his head/neck look like it 'exploded' - thats the only way I can describe. here is a pic. any feedback/input would be greatly appreciated

Can't really make that picture out. Try getting a better one out of the water.

Unfortunately, I've already gotten rid of him. I didn't want to leave him in the water all day, and I discovered him at 730 AM EST. Just now getting around to posting.

might be a case of drowning?

how can something thats fully aquatic drown? not trying to sound like a smartass, just simply trying to figure this mystery out.

It still have to breathe air, if for some reason it could not get up the the surface for air, it would drowned. Then the others might have scavenged on him

they've never had any trouble getting to the surface for air. there's driftwood at the top of the tank for them to come out to. matter of fact, last night, he was up on the driftwood when I fed everyone last night. no unusual behavior spotted either.

Did you know the sex? Those guys are not the best swimmers and I have had males drown females and rival males before during aggressive breeding behavior.
