just recently discovered some tiny snails in the tank. perhaps the eggs come from the water source?
is it a sign of a bad or good thing?. thanks

I find snails to be a good thing, but when they over populate it gets bad. They’ll get into everything, canister filter, pumps, and hoses. I had it in my planted tanks a couple yes back and I put 3 clown louch and they eat about 90% of them. Still find them in my canister filter but don’t see any inside the tank. Imo, snails ain’t a bad thing. :)

It depends on ones individual circumstances. For most, no biggie. For ray keepers it can be disastrous. Once snails enter a system I break it down. With rays in the tank they will eat the snails. That forces them to propagate in the filters where the excess food builds up. Especially if you feed heavy, moreso if you feed heavy with pellets.

The dead snails can damage pump impellers are worst case cause the impeller to get stuck. That burns up a pump pretty quickly.

I don't mind the snails that found their way into my tank. Their numbers don't seem to be increasing so they can stay for now.
