I would agree on the Deltec also.....

Hmmm...I would also be tempted to run some form of external filtration untill a larger ammount of live rock is in the tank, as 20kg is not going to provide much surface area for bacteria to colonise on.....

Just my thoughts... :)

the 20kg of live rock is just a starter niko i will be adding more as i go plus i will only have 1 fish too start with.
how much live rock do you think i should have in total and how much base rock.

live rock is pretty pricey!!! its £12 per KG of fiji

how much is it where you are dixon?

i'd get 100lb of rock......50/50

Yeah, i'd go for either 50/50 or 60live/40base.......Just gone 60/40 with my new reef....

Here is a good reputable place to get your live rock from Dix....£8 a KG....i highly recommend them

ok then i will go for 60/40, is that 50kg live and then base rock on top or 50kg total.
i will keep the in mind niko as it looks a decent price, i will buy as much locally in the classifieds as i can first and then top up the rest from there.
what sort of sand would i need to use.

and thanks for the info miguel.

Yeah, 50 live, 50 base Dix....

Sand wise, Aragonite sugar grade reef sand...CaribSea Sugar Sand Aragonite 30lb

Good stuff :)

thats the sand i have :D
Hey there 😎
Yea I love that Caribsea Live Sand with Agronite in it to I put that stuff in my 125 gal tank ( Oh Yea I African Cichlids from Lake Malawi ) away I put it in and couple of days later it was 0 ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates my Tank was fully cycled . I couldn’t believe it At first I was skeptical of the sand but I have read up on it and it said that it would do this to my 125 gal tank so I gave it a go I bought 5 /40 lbs bags

And it’s been that way now for a year or so and all of my parameters have been stable. Now I tell my friends about this Live Cichlid Sand mix some have it some don’t but that’s ok
Saves me so much time with maintenance every couple of months I change my filters or clean them in tank water and put it back together and do 25 percent water change and I’m done
🥃🍺🚬
Have a good one buddy
