foxface eating sand?

I have had a onespot foxface for well over 6 months now and have never had any issues with him. Today i got home and noticed he had a massive strand of...well poo.... hanging off of him. It had to be 7 or 8 inches (hes only about 7 inches himself). I also noticed he seemed to be eating sand from the bottom of the aquarium. He seems to have eaten so much sand that his stomach is really bloated looking and he looks like he is going to roll over...litterally. His color is really good and i have not noticed any issues prior to this. Any thoughts?
 
swim bladder problem, probably.
i think hes trying to eat diatoms in the sand and accidentslly eating the sand along with the diatoms.
 
I saw him eating it again this morning. But yet again he got rid of it all and looks normal. He seems to be swimming a little less then normal. But not really dramatically or anything.
