Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on fraging Australian Scoly corals. Or maybe someone who could help me on how to. Or is it possible. The Scoly I have is about 6 to 7" and is my show piece in the tank. Just wondering if it is possible to split. Thanks for any help.

I frag a lot....but dont have any particular experience with this coral? What exactly were you looking for tips on? Just the best way to cut it?

yes, just wanted to know if it's possible without killing it. I have'nt found anything on fragging this type of coral. Its an awesome coral so if I could split it that would be twice as good.

I hate to send people away from MFK, but some better sites for this kind of information is either reefcentral or reef2reef. It is possible to frag, thats how we have them in the industry...you just need advice from someone that has already done it. You will find if on one of the two for sure. Good luck.

A wet tile saw with a diamond blade or a band saw with a diamond blade works really well. It's important that you don't burn the corals during sawing which is why a wet saw is important. Remember to keep the coral in high flow afterwards to prevent infection. That step is crucial.

Keep in mind a Scoly that is cut in half can take a very long time to grow back into a circle and it will look a bit weird in the mean time. I've yet seen a Scoly that's been cut in half grow back to it's original size.
