I have heard that baby arowanas are very fragile and die easily but why is that? How many inches is considered a baby?

I can tell you if it still has the egg sack it is VERY fragile.

Why do people always hold the aro with the egg sack in their hands in pictures? I never understand that.

I would look for a 3-4 inch specimen, but even then they are still easy to stress out.

An easy size would be 7 inches + IMO. Those are usually considerably more expensive though.

7" is the best, just dont leave the tank lid off after cleaning the tank. Mine died at just over a foot.

so when did this happen?

A baby species of anything is fragile!!! And to ME, i consider any arowana under 5 inches a baby.

I Don't think silvers really start holding thier own until they reach a foot long or so. After that they are generally tough boogers... We got Pinky at about the 3.5" mark and she's now 22" but if possible start out in the 6" to 8" range. Especially if you have other fish in the tank.
