Frankenstein looks a little bloated and a rasbora that we definitely saw this morning is missing. And he didn't eat the food sticks I just dropped in, which is a first.

My little guy is growing up!

I was hoping to hold out till he was 6" before putting him in the big tank but there are a few other fish in there that he can eat so I think he's going to get to graduate today. I'm going to keep a close eye on it though because the top-dwelling giant danios in that tank are so active that it might freak him out. Maybe I'll move them into the planted tank... that'll suck for them though, going from 12 sq feet of surface area to less than 6.

Anyway, I am not sure why it looks all blue, but I took a photo of him in front of the same heater that you see in the photos from when I got him home. Quite a difference in two months. And I haven't been power feeding or anything.

Do you think he's old enough to handle the stress of another tank change? The water params are identical but there are much bigger fish (they're calm though, just big).

I moved mine at about that size from a 35 gallon qt to a bigger tank with sevs and he adapted fine, started eating within a couple of hours.

what kind of fish will be his tankmates,,,remenber to weigh down the top of the new tank because he may get jumpy...and they are jumpy anyway...and sometimes don't need a reason to come sailing out... he is beautiful

5 dats (only one is large), a baby distichodus, a big dist. lusosso, 2 bala sharks, a leopard ctenopoma, 4 catfish and those danios. I'm not worried about him being targeted by anyone, but just the activity of the danios and the size of the lusosso might freak him out. He's with a few fairly active/large rainbows and a gourami now, but he's still longer tip to tail than any of them. In this tank he'd be the 4th or 5th longest fish (for now). The danios are the only ones I could conceivably move.

The big tank has heavy glass lids with 100% coverage and heavy lights holding them down. It's by far my securest tank, so that's good.

i had very heavy glass to but my 28 inch arow was dead on the floor ..glass thrown up from the force...anyone with an arow has to make sure they are no holes open and heavy extra weight on top...the death toll is climbing all the time from underestimating their jumping..i am not telling you because i want to scare you..but i tell everyone because it is pure fact... :( so as he grows keep this in mind...

oh absolutely. As he grows there'll be additional measures taken. I like that you are mentioning it to everyone in their threads. It makes me sad to see so many people with experience still posting that their fish jumped out and died.

I'll also be building a canopy that'll go on top of the tank too and that should help for when he gets bigger and more forceful.

Thank you... i do repeat myself so much about it... but it happens so often and i only wish i had known before... so at least i figure finding the big guy laying there was a lesson i could pass on.... your doing everything right..and your guy shows it in his looks and health... when you get that canopy built please let everyone else see it too.. the more who know the better statiscally that their will be some arows that actually live to old age..i am going on 6 years with mine now.. :D best to you..!

I moved him this morning. Took about 20 minutes before he started exploring more than his plant-covered corner. So far he's not too thrilled about it, largely because he is not a strong enough swimmer to handle the FX5 return current. So far he has been caught up in it and thrown into another fish twice and he can't swim directly into it. But it's funny to watch him keep trying and learning. He seems to be practicing and figuring out a way around the direct current, just to the side or below it.

The other fish are really curious about him and a few have pecked at him, once after he rammed the jewel from the current, and the lusosso went up to check him out and I heard a splash and he was darting away... not sure if he was just scared or if the big dude tried to nip him.

I hope he figures this current thing out and decides to appreciate all the extra space he has, and I hope I'm not taking a big risk putting him in there.

For me it is always stressful to move any fish and change their comfortable environment into the unknown,.. he should do fine ,,.but it does take a while of being on pins and needles to see if they settle down... good luck..glad the initial move went well.

I've got to take some photos. His colors look incredible under the lights on this tank.

I wish I knew what bulbs they were so I could buy more, they're just so good at making reds and pinks pop and I've never been able to find another spectrum that even comes close.
