Whats up fellow crenicichla lovers. I recently found a unique and attractive "pike" displayed at a local pet store. Of course, the employee had no information on them and i'm actually having a tough time locating the scientific name of this fish (or if it is even a crenicichla). Do any of you experts have any idea what type of fish this could be? It was extremely similar to a crenicichla in body shape and fin shape, the face was intensely freckled with the darker grey spots becoming more spaced out after the gills ontop of a light grey body color. i believe there was also an area near the tail and dorsal with a rainbow-ish appeal. They were about 5" and were selling for $50. All i have to go on is that they were labeled as "freckled pikes" . . . .

Well, its possible that it was Crenicichla lenticulata, or some type of Saxatilis pike. Pictures would most definitely be helpful. Most curious. Perhaps Taz could come check it out for ya. He is the resident pike expert in your area. ;)

Thanks peanutpower. im thinking your correct. just saw the identification thread and it looks pretty damn close to a lenticulata. i'll probably end up purchasing one to feed my addiction and hopefully get some pics up soon.

Looking forward to it mate! Crenicichla lenticulata are awesome pikes for sure! Among some of the prettiest, not to mention fiestyest of the Lugubris pikes!!

Btw...Welcome to the forum! Great to have another Crenicichlaholic amongst us. :)

Wow, what a score!!! That is one heck of a beauty of a lent.
