of course, I haven't actually determined its gender, so my calling it "fred" might be a little presumptuous

still too young to tell, I thought female at first but there does seem to be some muscle around the anal fin.

Where did you find a purple sen?

I got him at a petland discounts in harlem, lfs. the coloration may be a result of the lighting, but I did think he was a nice specimen

I have to say, this bichir is way more active that I expected. Every time I look at my tank he is exploring, every nook and cranny.
He's a really good feeder, too. If I drop food in the tank, he's usually on it in a few seconds.

I tried digging around for some earthworms today, for a treat, because it was raining. Didn't find any though, which is weird because I usually find a bunch at that spot. I guess I'm not going to find worms until the spring...

Anyway, I'm loving my bichir so far. Great personality.
