now what i have your atention

i have a 900 gal pond and it gets pritty cold here like -12 at worst

so what i want to know is what kinda temp would i need to keep a pacu or 2 and a giant gurami

my idea was to build a cover and 1 kw heater or like 10 , 300 w

would this work .

by the way im just finding out about this no actual plans but any info would help
thanks fraser

I don't think heating ponds outside is feasible. It is VERY! expensive.
But, if this is your deal, try a swimming pool heater. Electricity will be a beast though.
Glass heaters will probably not survive the winter. Tropical fish should have 75 degrees F or higher.

i've had heated tanks all year long outside, with normal aquarium heaters. Of course electricity is what it is......

but in here, worst cold is around zero celsius...

ye -12 is like worse case maby one ,twice a year but are last few wintes have beeen mild as hell
not even a drop of snow

i would do it. when it gets around zero in here, what I do is cover all sides of the tank ( at night even the front side ) with styrofoam...I encase the tank in styro....temp maintains itself perfect ( ok, as said, energy bill grows )

ye and is dirt not a great insaltor as its an inground pond

They make solar covers for pools. Use one for the pond. My buddy has solar panels for the electricity he uses to heat his pond and pool.
