FREE FISH.... Male or female????? Who knows???

I got (2) free jacks today. They are in qt., and will be moved to a larger tank in about 2 weeks.

The question is if they are (male and female), ( 2 males), or ( 2 females).

( dempsey is around 6-7", and is tan/black)

( dempsey is around 5-6", and is a light tan/brown)

Im going to say both males but the light tan/brown one has me up in the air. Sorry im no expert.

Nope. I actually got them from a friend. He didn't want the jacks, so I told him I would take them.


Update on the 2 jacks: The larger jack keeps shaking its body from left to right in front of the smaller fish. I have them sep. right now as they started hitting each other. I hope they are not to males.

Yeah. This was the only clear pic.

both females..... the dominante one will always be darker and is probably the bigger one. the cheeks on both off them are jeweled males dont have that and have more jewels on the body when they are large.

males cause they have some spangles on their sides and the spangles on their gill plates are dots rather than patches. their gonna look great when you get them on a good diet. you'll probably have to separate them it will reduce stress on the fish and eliminate the possibility of them injuring each other
