I came across a old tank that is 36x18x18 with a slate bottom. Very old tank not sure from when, but the slate is cracked and it doesnt hold water. But the glass is 1/2 thick, and im thinking for my diy 405 i may do a split veiwing window or maybe just make another tank with a dual veiwing window. Is there anything different i should do if i make another with a dual window that you wouldnt do with a single veiwing window. Cause i have all kinds of ideas for the glass since it was free

What dimensions were you considering for the new tank?

well the frame is built its 84x42x28 im just waiting for the weather to break around here so i can put in the 3/4 ply and start to fiberglass.

just make sure the center beam supporting the two windows is extremely strong and well inforced.

yes after its all fiberglassed i was going to top it off with a piece of 1/2 ply covering the entire frame with 2 holes cut into the top for lighting no bigger than 24"x24"im just not sure if a 18" piece of glass will give me a big enough viewing window.

I would definitely use that glass for a plywood build, BUT not for that frame you have already built. For a tank that size you're gonna be kicking yourself if you use windows that small. Save the glass for another tank and keep searching for a better window. Also might want to rethink your top idea. Had something very similar and it made maintenance a total PITA on the 180G I built to the point that I started procrastinating on it. Ultimately removed the top and went w/braces instead.

will keep that in mind, and yes i dont want a split up veiwing window on the big tank i think im use the 2 36" pieces for another project.
