I have been offered a free Pangasius Cat and was wondering what people think of them. I don't know the exact size, but from the picture it looks to be at least 13-14". The current owner has it in a 75, she has been buying it bigger and bigger tanks, but can't afford a Monster tank. I plan to house it in my 185 fiberglass tank (44" square with a sloped bottom) along with the 9" Niger cat I am currently growing out in my 135.

Can anyone see any problems with this? Since the Niger stays on the bottom of the tank and the Pangasius is a mid-water swimmer, they seem like a good pair.

I did a quick search and realized the 185 is just a grow-out tank for this monster! I guess what I need to know is how long I have to build my BIG TANK. Would a 110 long (18x18x72, I believe) be better for swimming room?

I've been planning for my Niger to get big, but it sounds like these Pangasius grow fast! I'd love to here anyone's experiences with these.

I have heard that it is either feast or famine with pang cats. For some people who seemingly take good care of them they only get to about 9-10 inches for others they get to over 12 inches and up (I have seen pics of one's well above 2 feet).

You will definitely in my opinion note after getting this fish.. That there is not really a rectangle tank made for these :D When they get spooked.. the swim fast and Clumbsy!! And do not stop til the tank wall stops them ;).

Which usually ends in injury.and then they play dead for 2-10 minutes... Which is REALLY wierd the first few times....

They are fun They are MONSTERS too.

I loved mine.
