Hi, i got 6 discus all 3 inches. with 9 blue rams
my tank is 54X18X24 100g
What would be the frequency of water changes.
currently i am doing weekly 40%.

It all depends on GPH turnover rate within your tank. All these poeple doing daily w/cs on discus tanks is just too much IMO. To me as long as you keep your nitrates in a sensible level then water changes should'nt be all that much.........

I agree with this, they do not have to be kept in sterial conditions. 50% weekly W/C's are enough.

No salt - imo.

I have bin keeping Discus for about 18months now. I have learned many hard lessens along the way. You can get away with NOT doing daily water changes. I do NOT do daily water changes. How well your fish do depends greatly on how your tank is set up and how clean it is kept. I started with once a week water changes and it did not work well for me at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have increased my water change frequency to about 3 times a week. I shoot for 50% every other day But I averaged about 3 changes a week. I have found the Look better and grow much faster if you change water more often. When I first got started I was always fighting some sickness or problem. I am sure some of that was my learning curve but for sure some was my lack of water changes. I have bin keeping fish for over 25 Years. I have had Incredible Reef tanks in the past. I can tell you that Discus can be very challenging! There is more to keeping Discus that just changing water. Do you have a bare bottom tank? What kind of diet will they be on? Do you have a GOOD clean up crew? What temp are you keeping them at? Is the PH in your tank stable even during/after a water change?

You can Keep Discus without care for all these things But do you wan a sickly stunted fish that never reach there full potential or do you want some stunning Beautiful Huge Discus. That's the real question you must ask yourself!

PS

Bodydub & Aquanero - Do you have any experiance Keeping / Rasing Discus. They are not the same as any other FW fish and they dont do well if they are treated like Tetras.

Vaine111 has got the right Idea

I've raised discus on the past from about 2" or so and are VERY sensitive/delicate fish and I did not do w/c's ever day. W/C's are based on filtration, feeding, number of discus per tank, breeding, fry, juvi or adults. But to the OP, sign up and do tons of reading on simplydiscus.com for some awesome info .........

...I have had discus for years, and in my experience if you have a 100% cycled fish tank you do not need to change water daily. In my case since i have my tank 100% cycled i change the water every 3 to 4 weeks. They grow healthy and eat like pigs.
