My Fla gar LOVES dried krill. I live on the coast where I catch fresh shrimp all the time. Would it be ok to feed a few to my gar?? Thanks for any opinions.

where were these shrimp caught? are they fresh or saltwater? if it was from a place that has good water quality...i wouldnt think it could hurt anything. however i am still not a fan of live food...especially if you are unsure of their health and backround. if you decide to use them, please understand the risks that may be involved...disease, pasasites, etc.

welcome to MFK by the way.

there are some minor concerns with any live food, but if it's SW shrimp then these are minimal at best so i would say go for it. a friend of mine works at an aquaculture installation and i occasionally feed live shrimp he brings over...definitely fun to watch, and good to know they aren't as hazardous an issue as goldfish, etc--

I have a fresh water lake near where I stay, and I do go shrimping now and then.

The fishes and my pockets enjoy the good treat, as with the humans for the game and watching the fishes feed.

I agree on the goldfish part. My 1st gar, a florida, choked on a goldfish and died.

i eat the shrimps i catch from the rivers behind my house and so far no problems unlike the goldfish my mum bought from the market..so many diseases...HAHA jks.

that is why i asked if they were FW or SW. like i said above...i am not a fan of live food, but i do believe it is healthy for a fish to be able to hunt food once in a while and it can be pretty entertaing to watch.
