Fresh water Baby Whale

I am about to get a baby whale, are golden gouramis good tank mates for it ?

Baby Whale is a common name for a type of catfish. I think he is referring to this.

Baby Whales are a type of Mormyrid. They are pretty intelligent fish and use Eletric Organ Discharge (EOD) to locate food. Any fish with EOD is best kept as an individual or a large group. As for the Gourami, that particular species, Trichogaster Trichopterus, are known for being quite aggressive for a community fish. They can be a bit picky, so I suggest creating lots of hiding spaces for the Baby Whale.
