Are these active fish or do they just sit inside a cave and wait for food ?

Will it look "lost" in a 250g tank? the one I plan to get is 14 inches long

Wrong area for this but someone who’s got experience with them is DB junkie DB junkie

They are active when they have the right tankmates.
They don't like big fast swimming fishes.
Agressive tankmates are also a problem.
When you don't have the right tankmates they will only come out for food.
In my experience they do best in a peacefull community setup.
I don't know if this will change once they reach a bigger size.
I have 3 with big plecos and Arowana and they only come out for food or during the night.

they aren't really active, just hide inside rocks until night. they do need brackish

Just got the fish, did not realize that a 14 inch eel was so thin, yup he would be lost in the 250g tank. I made him a small compartment in the sump, roughly 20 gallons and he still lost in that section :)

neko1 neko1 Why are you so sure they're brackish?

Are you certain they need brackish? According to this study they are found in both freshwater and brackish as adults and juveniles

They do not need brackish water. Adults can thrive in full fresh.
