Hi,

I am trying to decided if I should add UV to my new tank how important is UV in freshwater.

Cheers,

DO IT, to me it works great. The water is alwYs clear. When I get home ill post pics of my tank.

It helps. You dont have to run it all the time alot of people only run uv every couple days. Water will be crystal clear.

Both of these tanks have uvs on them. The big one (65) is a bad pic cuz of reflection but it is really clear.

Ok seems that there is a general conciseness towards using UV I am currently setting up an 84" X 24" X 23" and using 2 new-jet 8000 from the sump the flow rates on these are 8000 l/h which is to much for most UV's I can find apart from very large Koi UV's that are very expensive and far to big.

I was thinking of having a smaller pump to work inline with a Aqua Medic Helix Max 55W feeding from the sump back to the sump how effective do you think this setup would be.

Cheers,

Yeah probably a better idea to go with a smaller pump, I have mine inline with a fluval fx5.

8000 lph converts to around 2113.376 gph, but you havent taken into consideration the amount of head. For instance, my mag18's are 1800 gph pumps. There is a little less than 5 feet of vertical distance between the pump and the spray bar reducing the flow to around 1200 gph.

For use uv filter you need have plants for the nitrogen cicle?
