This is my first post and I'm not sure what one doing but I purchased a freshwater barracuda which I believed to be a Redtail. I know there are many other species including yellowtails. My fish has an orangish tail so I'm not sure what it is. If anyone could help me identify which species this is it would be great.image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

i'm no expert buy looks like a yellow to me..
It looks like one to me too.I've always liked this group of fish but there are rarely any good sized ones available for sale and they are very slow growers in my experience.

Does anyone know exactly which species it just looks a little different from pictures I've seen of the regular yellow tail. But it doesn't look like a red tail neither.

It's yellow tail like the other members above mentioned. It'll get more yellow once bigger.

Okay thanks everyone does anyone know the genus name is. Sorry that's what I meant after you guys said yellow.

Acestrohynchus falcirostris

Well it already died! Was watching it swim around completely normal and literally 5 minutes later it was swimming erratically and literally 3 minutes after that I was upside down completely dead. Water tests are all fine. No clue? Any ideas? It did come with several black little dots on it.

Sometimes the water from the lfs to ur tank is enough stress to cause this. Meaning the difference in water chemistries. Travel time to ur tank. Cudas are easily stressed and need a bit of time to be acclimated. water params, tankmates, too much light, not enough other cuda fish are good enough reasons for this to happen.
