Freshwater Clams

I have had tons of freshwater clams, they dont do much, but they are a nice addition to a tank. Also a plus to keeping freshwater clams is that it helps cycle some of your water. I had a 15 tall and it was very cloudy on the bottom one day so I bought some clams becuase I was told they would cycle that, and that is just what they did =) You also have to be careful as they do need waste to eat off of, such as fish flakes sitting at the bottom in your gravel, if there isnt enough they will die, It happens often. Also if they do die, make sure you take them out when you notice it, it's not good for your water if you leave it floating off into your water.

So if I toss in a sinking pellet just for them every couple of days, this should be an adequate amount of food? I don't want them to starve.

Good filter feeder though but die easy for some reason.... I never had one but when I worked at a fish store we had trouble keeping them alive a very small ratio would end up alive long enough to sell...

I would think that a fine flake or crushed pellet would work better, they are filter feeders and need very fine particulates.

yup. exactly, flakes eventually break down so that gives them something to eat if you crush pellets it should do the same.

so would i be able to use these guys to turn over my sand in my 10 gallon to keep from getting gas pockets building up?
