Hi, I'm new to the forums and I would like to know an answer to this question. Would it be possible to have a freshwater aquarium decorated like a saltwater aquarium? This would include sand and fake lace rock. Not live rock of course... Everything would be set up as a normal freshwater tank but have the appearance of a saltwater tank. Feedback is much appreciative. :)

yeah its possible... petsmart or petco or any large pet surplus store sells fake SW deco like anemones and live rock.

imo it looks tacky, but if thats what your looking for, go ahead :D

Yeah alot of people who decorate a freshwater like a saltwater usually keep african cichlids in the tank because they look more like saltwater fishes! Just soak and rinse anything that has been saltwater and you should be good to go! Pics would be nice if you decide to do this!

There is an Asian restaraunt out where I live that has a 300 gallon freshwater tank with fake corals in it. I thought it looked completely stupid. Sorry to be so blunt, but anyone who knows their fish that sees your aquarium will think the same thing. Go for an Amazon look. I think that looks even better than salt water in my opinion. If you do the salt water look then go salt water.

that's all I have in my cichlid tank. some sand mixed with crush coral, lace rock and granite. the crushed coral and lace rock help keep my pH and hardness stable.

you will find that most people here (at least with cichlids) keep only sand, rock and/or drift wood.
