Newb talking here but here we go....

Any of the spiny eels i.e tire track, fire eel, peacock, etc... These are more of a fish that look like an eel....

Morays are found in fresh water small and sold to pet shops as freshwater fish because thats were they are found still small enough for pet trade, but eventualy would have moved to salty waters when they mature.

Down here in south Florida you can find spiny eels from less than 10 dollars to over 25 depending on the type.

try a peacock. they max out at about 12 inches, if that. they also don't get as fat as a roll of bologna. they tend to get as much girth as an oscar meyer beef hotdog. excuse my food analogies, but i'm kinda hungry.

liveaquaria.com says minimum for both the tire-track/fire eel is 50gallon and they should do fine until they get closer to 2feet, i've seen them on youtube in 50's and 75's doing really good, the smaller spieces are peacock, zigzag and if you can find the spiny eels from africa i dont think they get that big either and they definitely look the best even better than the fire eel in my opinion

I just bought 2 Zig Zag's for $14.00. The are about 4" long and I'm keeping the in a 30 gal quarantine tank and will move the later.

I have a 150g tank, so it should be able to house my fire eel for life I am hoping.
