ok so here's the thing Ive only done HOBs but as with anything/everything in thiis hobby I do my homework so here goes ...

I'm looking for opinions on weather not it is worth it to do sump off any of my tanks (75 55 20) because I'm breeding convicts (20g)

So I'm not a big fan of live plants mostly because my cichlids are big fans of uprooting live/plastic plants. So I would want to have my planted tank connected to my cichlid community for all the benefitial aspects such as more volume and having my heater and whatnot conceiled. The one problem would be the fact that I would want to use my planted tank to grow out convict fry this could be a problem due to the extreme water turbulance. So in that aspect I am creating a freshwater refugium to maintain calm water conditions. Now my question is should I bother making a sump or just fugedaboudit and buy a sponge filter for what ... Ten dollars and grow them out in their entirly seperate tank? And go without the benefits live plants. My 75 has 2-3" green terror jaguar bumblebee I know it's an African but they get along if anything happens he'll be moved I to My African tank which is stocked with fish too big for him right now

When you are in the posting page or editing, scroll the page to the right and there is an "ABC" button with a check mark. That is the spelling checker and it makes it super easy and really fast to fix the typos. When it was new there was a download that was required. I don't know if that still applies though.

I have been breeding convicts for a long time and I have found that there is no substitute for a good old fashioned sponge filter. I'll go get a pic of my setup after this post. I only have a clay pot and the filter in there. I leave the fry in with the parents until they lay again or until they grow to half an inch. You can remove the fry earlier but you will need to give them extra care. I just removed my last batch of fry eight days ago and the parents layed eggs two days ago. Normally they lay 75-100 eggs, but this time they layed about 400 :headbang2

I want the 20 gallon to be a refu for my 75 gallon so it can reek the benefits of live and plants and larger tank volume and media ECT. Since I will have a whole tank I might as well put it to more use by taking the .5" convict fry out for room for the next batch. Right now I have Plasti. Hollow skull and some PVC (2" with a 45 degree retrun and an elbwo)and then 2 rocks with slate it's a 20g

My convict breeding tank. The Pothos vine provides nitrate export and the fry like to hang out in the roots and nibble at the root hairs.

No it isn't worth it.

I'll do my best to avoid posting any more additional information that may be extremely helpful. Sorry about that.

I just wanted to know the answers to some questions and I appreciate the info you gave me. I was merely seeing if you may have known anything that I was asking in addition to what you already genuinely displayed for me
