Freshwater Fishing on Long Island?

Anyone have any experiences with this? Anything cool to be found in some ponds/rivers? I know I've caught some freshwater eels that are in some streams but never much else besides some giant snails. If you guys have had any experience with this where and with what have you guys caught?! I'd like to set up a "native" tank but with fish I've actually caught myself! so any info or a point in the right direction would be nice! thank you

One of my friends caught a big albino tiger oscar once in the summer, lots of crawdads, eels, perch, baby Chain pickerel in my mind are even more aggressive than the big ones and they would be awesome in a tank, if you have waders, I would say get in the streams in the summer with a decent sized net and scoop the floating weeds and that's how I get stuff, there's also an abundance of mosquito fish near me, we also even catch baby bullhead, where on li are you?
