I believe these guys are Clibanarius africanus for those interested. Collected in Africa, of course, from a purely freshwater source. Generaly this species is considered brackish, and can be acclimated over, but these have the unique advantage of being collected in Freshwater without access to a brackish environment. Of course that is what the exporter had to say..... I have personaly had them in Fresh since about 3/20/09 and they are doing very well.
No breeding at this time.
I would offer some advise to anyone that purchases these guys though......
1) NEVER use any medication that has ANY ammount of copper in it.
2) ALWAYS have a VERY SMALL ammount of salt in the water. These guys do benefit from very low salinity. Again, a small ammount will not negatively impact most fish. And alot of us keep minute ammounts in our tanks anyway.
3) Feed with a variety of foods. Plant and animal matter are both taken.
4) Be aware of tankmates, and what they are capable of. These guys are very suseptable to predation.
Thanks,
Chris
