Hi everybody,

I saw a picture of a FW Grouper in another part of this Forum. I was wondering if anyone had experience with them. Or even where to get one.

Any info would be apperciated

Thanks, G

Hiya Metman, the one you probably saw was a yellow and black fish called the bumblebee grouper, they are attractive when young but get huge, to 9' long, and as they get larger need salt water to live, they also lose the attractive colors.
There is a true grouper that is fully freshwater for life but you will probably have to find an importer and special order, it is from New Guinea. It is called the whitedotted grouper, Ephinephelus polystigma, and gets around 15"s long as an adult. Nice fish.

Yep, big enough to swallow divers whole if they wanted to. The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA has a baby that is about 4' at the moment.

whoa..what an amazing huge fish...sometimes i think it's kind of cruel to lure the fish and kill them and hang them just like that and just for sports...

just think how much time does the nature needs to produce such amazing giant fish and all a human do is just lure it, fish it, kill it, and that's it...

if we can look from the other side..let say there's a species much greater than human kind (as we are to the fish), what do you feel if the greater species do 'fishing' to us?

I agree with you, conversely, I have problem with animal rights activists, like PETA freaks. But what you said is completely true, and I guess its where our conscience allows us to accept, and the degree we can accept. If you think of it, a cow that we eat, is more animal than a dog, but its almost unimaginable to eat a dog...

I am a firm believer in sustainable harvest and that means first understanding all the interactions.
