Hi guy's

I really don't know that much about these fish somthing i have never really looked into keeping. How many different freshwater species are there ? and what sizes do they grow to ? anyone got any pic's of all or any of these species of fish ?

I remember seeing a pair of them in my LFS a couple of months ago and they were both 15" plus they were huge and look great.

Which LFS did you see them in?
You aren't talking about the Bumblebee groupers or mangrove snappers are you?
I don't think the bumblebee ever reached the UK and they are not freshwater fish but converted fish.
What did it look like?

They were definatly not Bumblebee groupers i know what they are!

They could have actually been Gray mangrove Snappers ( Lutjanus griseus ).

The LFS i wen't to wasn't my normal one he had them labled as freshwater groupers.

There is one species that I have found info on that while normally brackish is found in full fresh water as adults in New Guinea. It is the whitedotted grouper (Epinephelus polystigma) It gets only 15-16" long. there are several small snappers that can live in fresh water. here is a pic by J.E.Randall of the grouper. Nice looking fish.

Are those whitedotted groupers ever available for sale in the hobby?

I saw one not long ago, online, Aquabid I think, but have just recently even heard of them. Someone posted it in the identification game so I looked it up.

Did you see these at Wharf Aquatics? How much were they?
Aren't they fully marine when older? Would be interested to know.
