I'm thinking about buying a freshwater lionfish from my LFS. I think it's an amazing fish, and I've seen it eat on several occasions. I have a brackish tank that I am going to be keeping it in if I get it. I would like to know everything I need to know about this awesome fish. I've read other threads on here, but there's nothing really set in stone, and they're years old. Any info is appreciated thanks =).

Usually when it says "Freshwater" in the name its actually brackish and these fish are brackish which means it won't fare well in freshwater tank.

I see you posted this in the Brackish section so you are aware of this which is good.

Hi! I don't know anything about these fish.. did you try any other resources beside MFK? as far as any info on this little dude..

They're pretty easy once you get them in salt. Just have big mouths so choose tankmates with care.

very hardy in SW, not particularly active though...assuming we're talking about the toadfish types

yes the name Freshwater Lionfish is very misleading. they aren't even related they are toadfish

I had one for two weeks then it just died it was the wierdest thing. They are really boring and only really move at night.

cool fish, not very active but very fun to feed. Mine would eat live or frozen shrimp. Kept with 2 eels with very minimal problems. Only reason i got rid of them is because i had to move.

I've had my toadfish in pure fresh for over 4yrs now. fully grown and sitting at 12" long. It is true that these guys will eat anything that gets within inches of its massive mouth...a true ambush predator.
