Anyone here have a freshwater mangrove tank? I was thinking about filling a 20 long with them and keeping some small tetras or rasboras. I figure the mangroves should be able to keep up with the little waste they produce.

Long term though, when will the mangroves root out and get the distinctive mangrove look? I've done a bit of research and have only seen them root out in a saltwater tank.

I put mine in my freshwater sump. They do well in fresh water. I got mine from a person who had it in saltwater and i transitioned it into freshwater no problem. grow roots but dont know how long.

I kept some in freshwater, but lost them mainly due to neglect. Before that, they did fine. I really want to get some more but haven't seen them for sale again near me

I have 6 growing in a refugim as part of my bio system. They do great in fresh water. I have mine on 15 hrs of light a day and they are growing new leaves like crazy. It may take 2-3 months before they do that. I have mine in a tank with a high bio-load so they started growing within a month. I keep them trimmed back so they don't outgrow the refug so I can't answer your other question. I'd like to see some pic's of what you're talking about "mangroves root out and get the distinctive mangrove look"

You can get them online from this guy

I would imagine he means the way they look in the wild, twisted roots and all

Yep, Looking for them to throw side roots sfrom the base of the trunk that branch down into the water.
