What is the point of Freshwater Mussels? There was a label for them at a LFS and they were a few £ each what do they do why do people keep them?Any picson them? Are they fresh water or are they brackish?Could they be in a community tank?

They are good at eating the leftovers at the bottom of the tank and therefore are very helpfull as cleaners. They also revolve the sand in the bottom, and therefore are constantly releasing stuck gases in the sand.

Oh LOL didn't know any of that thanks!Might get a few....Hmm wonder if they would bother my corys or vice versa

I do not believe that would happen.

But you got to have a sandy bottom.

I wouldn't advise getting mussels. They do not eat leftover foods preferring floating algae. If you really want to get them, then get a tank specially for these creatures and ask your store where exactly did they source their stocks. Most mussels are coldwater and often die from warm temperatures. If you could culture green water which is basically green floating algae, then you may be able to keep them alive longer than most specimens that are starved halfway to death due to improper diet.

there a waste of time. they hide 99.9999999999% of the time. i saw mine twice in a month, then it died. truly a waste

supposedly they help with nitrates

^^ yepp and fresh water clams too. i have a 55g with around 60 clams hardly see them but you can see in the sand where they have moved from one place to another.

Hmm I love clams but for a community I think my corys will be ok..Probally
