What are the differences in general terms of care, personality toward other fish, but especially in interacting with humans outside the tank? Pretty much the same, or different?

If you have kept both SW and FW puffers which do you prefer and why?

Never had salt. Currently have a mbu puffer and had a fugu puffer in the past. Mbu puffer can grow to a massive size and are very tame with tankmates. Fugu are small but don't let the size fool you. They can be very aggressive and shred up fish that are ten times their size. They are very easy to take care of. I would assume that salt water puffers require more detailed care.

Ive only ever kept figure 8's. And they are brackish. Easy to care for, not real sensitive in terms of water quality (not to say I didn't take care of the tank, but as in salt levels and such). Ate all the time, loved begging for food.

Ive never kept a saltwater puff but currently have a freshwater hairy puffer. Being a lurker he does not do much but sit and wait for food. He does interact and beg for food just like my big cichlids.

For some reason in the evenings it likes to puff. I think it can see itself in a reflection and reacts.
Here he is:

I haven't kept saltwater puffers but i have a brown puffer he used to hide a lot but now he sits in front of the tank and sometimes follows me when im by the tank. I haven't tried any tank mates but hes pretty easy to care for i usually just have to clean up some small pieces of tilapia after feeding.

I've kept a saltwater porcupine and it was easily the most interactive fish I've had. All the fresh/brackish puffers I've seen haven't really been as interactive. I believe the larger the puffer the more interactive it is.

Ok thanks for all the info! I already have a SW tank, so I am familiar with the care of a SW tank, but I have been thinking of getting rid of it because I just don't enjoy it as much as my FW tanks with big cichlids. But I am interested in puffer and couple other predator saltwater fish... so I have been thinking of doing either a single SW puffer, or maybe a community of larger SW fish... Just from watching YouTube it did seem like SW puffers were more interactive than FW ones, as well as more active, but it's hard to gauge it just based on YouTube. I would love to hear from more people who have kept both FW and SW puffers.
