Freshwater sea horses in UK river

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That is super cool!!! Really hope that one day they can be bred enough that we can see them in the hobby...

Would love to own a freshwater seahorse...

These seahorses are occupying the delta region and are likely a marine species traveling up river slightly. GL trying to keep them in captivity considering the temp in the Thames around the report date is about 40F.

On the flip side of the coin, I'm glad to see the efforts to clean up the Thames appears to be making progress.

There are black sea pipefish in Dnepr river in Kiev. They are marine species aw well, but for the last ten years they have been all around the river in a completely 100% fresh water (nowhere near delta). So it's possible that these sea horses have also adopted to pure fresh water.

Oh well, i guess one can only dream for now then...

Wow didn't know any specie of Seahorse could thrive in water that temperature.

if you seen the thames you would be shock to see anything survive in there regardless of temp.

the thames is tidal and i believe not fresh water till well past london city (teddington lock), it's not uncommon for large marine mammals to find there way up there.

there is lots of coastal areas that are reserves for seahorses around the uk.

good news allround
