Freshwater snails?

I need some snails that will eat diatoms, won't eat anubias and vallisneria, and won't get eaten by a 5" bichir.

Oh, and legal in california (hate this state.)
 
Nerite snails. Be sure to supplement them with a constant supply of algae as they will refuse anything else other than algae only.

There's another option I forgot. Ramshorns (Planorbidae) also help clean algae and are not picky with foods at all. Although they can proliferate, they are not as prolific as the dang pond snails and MTS.
