I just bought an eel from the lfs that they were calling a freshwater snowflake moray eel. I did some research and numerous sites said that there is no such thing as a fsme. If anyone knows anything about this eel please share your thoughts. He is in a 90g about 10'' long and i paid 19.99 for him. thanks

yes it is a freshwater moray eel. my lfs gets a ship load of em all the time. nice looking eels too. iono i think my lfs said it needed some salt, but idont remember how much.

They are true morays born in freshwater but they move into deltas as adults in the wild you will need to add quite a bit of salt to keep it healthy as it matures I kept one for about a year not knowing that then after it was too late I did my research

They are high end brackish.

Nothing wrong with a good ole Anguilla rostrata (American Eel) to grow monster and stay in FW indefinitely...

I personally own a tire Track Eel which is a great freshwater eel to own for starters. The Moray Snowflake eel I have own three of them myself the first one I own died with in three months. I found out that you will with time have to convert the freshwater tank into a full on saltwater tank. So really its better to just start off with a saltwater tank. Cause what happens if you keep them in freshwater they get a film, slime on them and it basicly kills the eel. The eel will stop eating kind of lay on it side all of the time.

The only problem with this is that Mastacembelus are not true eels, but elongated fish. Still a very nice substitute though. I do believe there is a fresh water moray type eel. Li just picked some up. Not sure how "fresh" the water has to be to keep them, but I think it would have to be closer to Brackish at the least.
