So, I've had a Freshwater snowflake moray eel (or marble eel. Theres a lot of different names) for about a year or two and I've had him since he was pretty tiny. He was originally in a brackish water tank, about 25 gallons, and he would eat whenever I put food in the tank. As soon as I would open the lid, he'd come out of his hole and would eat all of the food. Now, I have moved him into a 75 gallon fish tank and it took him a VERY long time to get used to it (he's about a foot and a quarter in length now) but now he comes out quite a bit but usually just sticks his head out of his coral I bought for him. But ever since I introduced him into the new tank, I never see him eat the way he used to. When I put food in, he doesn't come out and immediately eat the food like he used to in the 25 gallon. It worries me but he's been a month or so without me seeing him eat the frozen shrimp I put in there (I also put ghost shrimp for him to eat). Anyways, I was just wondering if this is normal or is he eating things without me knowing late at night?

I appreciate you for reading this. Please reply with any feedback or tips that I should know about this eel.

Probably due to ur suspected water quality from ur prior post. Poor water qualities will cause behavior similar, even to ur brackish eel.

has he lost any girth? My fire eel stopped coming out to eat for a month when all my fish moved from the 55 to the 100 then it took a month till he was coming out everytime and being a greedy eater. Then recently I added a afer knifefish and now he sticks his head out at feeding time but if the bloodworms don't come close he doesn't eat

Thank you for replying to this one so quickly too. I'll definitely get on to doing a water change.

He is definitely still a really fat eel and doesn't look skinny. Thats why I was a bit confused. I'll go through a water change and let you guys know what happens as soon as I can

If you have moved him from brackish, where he should be, to totally fresh water (no salt) then no wonder he is off his food. His body is functioning in a massively different way and is under huge stress. These never do well in fresh water IMO and I would put him back where he came from.

Also did you slowly reduce the salt level in the orig tank to acclimatise him?

Also, do not look for comparisons to things like fire eel behaviour as a fire eel is a loach, your eel is a true eel
A fire eel is a type of spiny eel, not a loach... morays and spineys are different

Your eel is not "freshwater" unfortunately. The only true FW eel is gymnothorax polyuranodon, and anything else is brackish or SW. This is probably due to osmotic stress

Sorry, that is correct, I think the spiny eel is closer to a loach though than a true eel?

Could well be. Main point is here moray eels are a whole different ball game
